Every two years the British Province's Synod meets.  This is the governing body of the church and each congregation sends one representative and its minister.  In 2014 the Synod met at Swanwick in Derbyshire and the photo above shows those present.  It was with great joy, following prayer and reflection that Br Joachim Kreusel, minister of the Hornsey congregation, was elected bishop of the Unitas Fratrum - the world-wide Moravian Church.  Br Kreusel is in the centre in the pale blue shirt and stands next to Br John McOwat, bishop of the Unity, who will officiate at Br Kreusel's consecration.

Consecration as bishop of Br Joachim Kreusel

At Hornsey Moravian Church on Saturday, 29 November, Br Kreusel was consecrated bishop of the Unitas Fratrum by Br John McOwat supported by two other bishops, Br Friedrick Waas from Germany and Br Volker Schultz from Switzerland.  It was at the same time both solemn and joyful and we were delighted to welcome guests from Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and Switzerland as well as Moravians from all over the country.  Most of the serving ministers were present as were a number of the retired ministers.  We were joined by ecumenical guests and by local clergy.  Below are photos of the occasion and we are grateful to Karin Lindmark from Sweden for having supplied them.

30 August 2015

Sunday, 30 August marked the end of Joachim Kreusel's long ministry at Hornsey.  He has been called to serve the congregations at Ockbrook, near Derby, and Leicester as well as carrying out his specialist ministry as Bishop of the Unitas Fratrum.

He has been a well loved minister and neighbour and will leave a huge gap in the local community as well as the congregation but we all wish him well and God's richest blessing as he moves on.

For the time being, the congregation will have a period of interregnum and will be ably run by the church committee.  We go forward in good heart.

5 March 2017

Today marks the start of a new era in the life of the congregation with Rev James Woolford's first Sunday.  James will serve the Hornsey and Harold Road(Stratford) congregations.  James, Annette and the children will be settling into the manse over the next few weeks and we pray for God's richest blessing on the family as they get to know north and east London.
